Tales for Dogs
DOGS WORKING IN THE COMMUNITY
(also known as VID's - very important dogs)
Tales for Dogs
Every Wednesday morning during the school term
INCEPTION
During Term 1 of 2023 the Principal of the Gympie South State School recognised that volunteer reading support was needed for Grade 3 pupils and approached a Club member to participate and "bring a dog". Term 2 was considered a success however the member recognised that more volunteers were required for the task and they would need insurance. Enter the Gympie Dog Obedience Club who on being approached wholeheartedly backed the endeavour. Thus began "Tales for Dogs" as a volunteering arm of the Club
ONGOING
Prior to the start of Term 3 the team grew to four Club volunteers currently utilising two dogs "Gemma" and "Max" who have become pupil favourites."Tales for Dogs" supports the pupil with vocabulary, comprehension and punctuation. It is non judgmental, covering all levels of reading ability. The pupils are more relaxed with compassionate one on one support ."Tales for Dogs" has been well received in 2023 with the pupils happy to get a place in our sessions. We are returning for 2025.
