DOGS WORKING IN THE COMMUNITY
(also known as VID's - very important dogs)
Dog Visits
Every Monday morning and every first and third Wednesday of the month the Gympie Dog Obedience Club visits residents and patients at Gympie Nursing Homes and the Hospital. If you would like to join our visiting team, your dog needs Class 3 level obedience training, a bath and nail clip within 24 hrs prior to the visit, a quiet temperament and a dog that doesn't bark excessively is desirable. We need to assess both dog and handler to see if both are suitable for this activity.
All centres have re-commenced visits, however on-going visits are subject to current COVID restrictions and protocols which can change instantly.

Please Note - Dog Visitors v. Therapy Dogs (its chalk and cheese)
Our dogs and handlers provide companionship to patients and residents (Dog Visits).
We do not train dogs for therapy work or to provide lifestyle or special needs assistance (Therapy Dogs) - if you are looking for this type of assistance then the closest organisation is located at Cooroy/Pomona - SmartPups, who can then point you in the right direction.
